As a part of the BBC Backstage university tour we decided to develop some virtual learning ideas by broadcasting the lecture live into Second Life.

We built and provided the virtual space and resources as well as filming and streaming the content.

This approach allows the users to exploit the benefits of both real life lecturing (being in a physical space with others in a face to face style) and virtual learning environments (online resources, personal time management and information distribution).

Second Life has massive potential within the education sector and in combination with existing VLEs its something that is ready to be exploited.
